Magill’s Critical Survey of Short Fiction

Individual author essays contain brief biographical information, list of works, analysis of themes, techniques, and development of the writer’s short fiction, and resource list for further study. Volume 7 contains 29 essays covering the history, theory, and geographical development of short fiction, as well as geographical, category, and subject indexes. Arranged alphabetically by author’s last name.

Magill’s Masterplots II: Short Story Series

Contains brief critical evaluations of outstanding short stories from world literature. Arranged alphabetically by title of story. Each article includes time of plot, locale, date of publication, list of principal characters, a plot summary, themes and meanings, and style and technique. Cumulative author and title indexes can be found in Volume 8, as well as a geographical index, type of plot index, glossary, and chronological list of stories. Short Stories for Students

In-depth analyses of classic examples of short fiction Each entry includes an introduction to the story and the author, a plot summary, descriptions of important characters, analysis of important themes in the story, an explanation of important literary techniques in the work, a critical overview, excerpts from published critical essays, and an essay placing the story within its historical context.
